Where did the idea of Klinkfloyd come from?

It all started in 2008 with a good friend who was suffering from strong headaches due to stress. His doctor suggested that he take up a hobby. His father had a small boat back in the 1970’s so he thought he might like to have a boat too. He bought a 21.5 feet Fibrafort boat, which he named APUS, and joined the Itacuruça Yacht Club. This club is in an area called the “Green Coast” region, which is about 60 miles (96.5 km) south of Rio de Janeiro.

My friend invited me to join him and his family as the spent time together on the boat. This is how I got started learning about boats, about navigation, and about the wonderful bay.

In 2011, my friend moved away due to a work transfer and I bought both APUS and the club title; however, I changed the name of the boat, even though it was named after a constellation. The name I chose was Klinkfloyd!

How did you come up with the name Klink Floyd?

One day I was reading a book written by Amyr Klink, a great Brazilian seaman, while I was listening to Pink Floyd, as I have since high school, and the idea Klink Floyd came into my mind naturally.

Who is Amyr Klink?

Amyr Klink is an admirable Brazilian navigator. He accomplished incredible things such as rowing alone in a small boat from Namíbia, in Africa, to Bahia, in Brazil, using the sea currents and winds that he had studied. This was in 1984, 11 years before the first GPS was available! He also spent two winters alone in Antarctica in his wonderful sailboat, Paratii.

He is an amazing planner and these accomplishments, that most people call madness, were done meticulously, with safety and comfort taken into consideration. He always returned safely to his beautiful family.

This is why I admire him so much. I was given his first book, One Hundred Days Between Sea and Sky, as a present 1999. I thank my ex-girlfriend for this gift because it was the beginning of a deep admiration I have for this special man.

Why Pink Floyd?

I first heard the music of Pink Floyd around 1980 with a school friend who was already crazy about them. I had no money for records so I borrowed his albums ‘Dark Side of The Moon’, ‘Animals’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Wall’. I loved this music! I learned a lot of my English by reading and repeating those amazing and wonderful lyrics. I never stopped listening to Pink Floyd and I have a special appreciation for David Gilmour. I feel really connected with his ideas and songs.
In 2015, I went to one of his concerts in Sao Paulo, and it was hard to stop crying with emotion and happiness. My friend who introduced me to Pink Floyd died very young, due to a stupid accident, but I am sure he is in good place, with good friends, listening to Pink Floyd.

Who is Captain Lima?

Before buying APUS, I had already taken my Amateur Arrais license, the first step in amateur and leisure navigation authorization. Later, I sold APUS (already renamed Klink Floyd) and bought Klink Floyd II and started going out to sea more often. My passion for boats increased every day.

All the new experiences and unfamiliar places I visited made me want to learn more about boating, and the natural way was to take the test for Amateur Master. I studied and took it and I passed. The classes I had with a former Brazilian Navy Commander, Captain Felipe, his passion for the sea and for the art of navigation were incredibly inspiring. Two years later, I decided to take the test for Amateur Captain, the highest level of navigation license. Again, Captain Felipe was the teacher and I became a Captain myself.

My name is Jose Paulo Dobroes de Lima, a chemical engineer that worked for more than 30 years for The Coca-Cola Company. Now, my desire is to show the wonderful bay around Ilha Grande to as many people as possible. I invite you to come and enjoy it with me!

What is Klink Floyd III?

I sold Klink Floyd II and Klink Floyd III became my third boat. She is a 27.5 feet Real PowerBoats motor boat, equipped with a 170Hp diesel Mercury engine, delivered in December 2016. Klink Floyd III is authorized by the Brazilian Navy to navigate in open sea, so we can go far for high seas fishing.

The boat is authorized to take 10 passengers plus the Captain. However, I prefer to take no more than 8 so that everyone can be more comfortable. The boat has a cabin where a couple can sleep comfortably, a closed electrical toilet, a shower in the aft deck, space to relax in the solarium stern when anchored, comfortable seats, and navigating lights.

Because SAFETY is a priority, the boat has all life guard equipment, flash lights, two VHF radios (one water proof) and first aid accessories. It is also equipped with a Bluetooth stereo, so you can connect your smart phone to hear your favorite songs (it can connect USB or Auxiliary cables too), GPS and space enough to bring a cooler for those necessary beverages.

Why did you start this business?

For some years, I have been taking family and friends to visit this wonderful bay. Because it has more than 350 islands, many different beaches, a deep forest that comes up to the sea, green and clear water, and wonderful, hard-working people, more people should visit it.
This is why I want to transform this incredible passion into a business. A private, friendly, exclusive opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

There are also the benefits that sustainable tourism can bring to the region, partnering with local business leaders (hostels, restaurants, etc.,) meeting new people, and sharing this wonderful region with those who do not know it.

So, join me and I am sure you will love snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, trekking or just relaxing and watching the sea.
